Amazon Alexa Tablets 2026: UK Release Date, Models and What’s New

Amazon’s new Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, 11 and 8 bring Google Play, Android and Alexa+ to the UK on 19 October. Here’s how the models compare.

Amazon has unveiled three new Alexa Tablets, marking a major change from its familiar Fire tablet range. Announced on 8 October 2026, the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro, Alexa Tablet 11 and Alexa Tablet 8 run Android, include access to the Google Play Store and put the company's Alexa+ assistant at the centre of the experience. For UK shoppers, the launch date to watch is 19 October 2026.

What's new with Amazon's Alexa Tablets?

For years, one of the biggest compromises with an Amazon Fire tablet was its app ecosystem. Fire OS focused on Amazon's own app store, which could make popular Android apps harder to access. The new Alexa range changes that equation: Google Play support means familiar apps such as YouTube, Gmail, Netflix and Google Docs can be installed through the official store.

Amazon is also moving upmarket. Instead of positioning every tablet primarily as an inexpensive media device, the new range uses aluminium bodies, sharper displays and more ambitious hardware. Alexa+ is integrated into the interface, with voice assistance and on-screen help designed to work across reading, entertainment and everyday tasks.

Alexa Tablet 12 Pro vs 11 vs 8: the differences

Model Screen Headline feature US starting price
Alexa Tablet 12 Pro 12-inch, 120Hz Optional Nanomatte screen; pen and keyboard accessories $499.99
Alexa Tablet 11 11-inch, 90Hz 2.5K display and dual Dolby Atmos speakers $329.99
Alexa Tablet 8 8.7-inch Compact, one-handed reading and travel $229.99

These are US launch prices, not UK retail prices. UK shoppers should check Amazon's local listings before budgeting, because currency conversion alone does not account for UK pricing, taxes or promotional offers.

Alexa Tablet 12 Pro: the iPad alternative?

The flagship is the most interesting option for people who want a tablet for more than streaming. Its 12-inch screen has a 3:2 aspect ratio, which provides extra vertical room for documents and web pages. Amazon specifies a 120Hz refresh rate, Wi-Fi 6E and Dolby Atmos audio. An optional Nanomatte display is designed to reduce reflections, which may appeal to readers and people working near bright windows.

Amazon also offers a separate Pro Pen and keyboard, turning the tablet into a more flexible note-taking and light-productivity device. Those extras add to the total cost, however. Before choosing it over an iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab, compare the complete bundle rather than the tablet price alone.

Alexa Tablet 11: the family-friendly middle option

The 11-inch model offers a 2.5K display with a 90Hz refresh rate, 8GB of RAM in its entry configuration and up to 15 hours of video playback according to Amazon. For streaming, web browsing, video calls and occasional work, this could be the practical middle ground. It avoids the flagship's larger footprint while providing more viewing space than the compact model.

Alexa Tablet 8: for travel and reading

The smallest model is designed for portability. With an 8.7-inch display and a reported weight of 329g, it looks better suited to commuting, ebooks and watching downloaded programmes on a journey than to typing long documents. Its lower US price makes it the entry point into the new range, but it is still considerably more premium in positioning than Amazon's cheapest older Fire tablets.

What does Alexa+ actually add?

Alexa+ is Amazon's newer AI assistant, built into the tablets rather than offered only through a separate smart speaker. Users can ask questions, control compatible smart-home devices and request contextual help. Amazon also highlights a personalised home experience that brings together reading, watching and listening activity.

The important buying question is whether these features fit your routine. Someone who already uses Alexa around the home may appreciate the integration. Someone who mainly wants YouTube, Netflix and email may find that Google Play access is the bigger improvement. As with any AI-enabled device, review privacy permissions and which on-screen features are optional before enabling them.

Are the new Alexa Tablets available in the UK?

Amazon says the new Alexa Tablets begin shipping in the UK on 19 October 2026, after an earlier North American launch. UK prices and availability can change, so confirm the exact configuration and local price at the point of purchase.

Existing Fire tablet owners do not need to replace their devices simply because a new product family has arrived. Consider upgrading if you have been frustrated by app availability, want a more capable display or need the extra productivity features. Otherwise, a working Fire tablet can remain perfectly useful for reading and streaming.

ViralGadgets verdict: which model should you watch?

For most people, the Alexa Tablet 11 looks like the most balanced starting point on paper. The 12 Pro is the more compelling choice for note-taking and productivity, especially if the matte display is important. The Alexa Tablet 8 makes sense when portability matters more than screen space.

These are launch-specification comparisons, not hands-on reviews. We'll revisit the recommendation when UK prices and independent testing are available.
